This is a famous puzzle from the 1920s. Once the stick and string are placed in a buttonhole, it seems impossible to get off! Can be quite mystifying and fun.
First used by an insurance salesman to get customers’ attention. If you have ever heard the expression “you’ve been buttonholed”, it came from this puzzle!
